Welcome
Thank you for visiting the Year 3 page here at Stanton Cross Primary.
In Year 3, we strive to become curious and enthusiastic learners, eager to explore a wide range of exciting topics. Building on the foundations laid in Year 2, the children will continue to develop their skills and deepen their knowledge. They will strengthen their problem-solving abilities, learn to collaborate effectively in pairs and small groups, and always aim to do their best. As they grow into more independent learners, they will also have the chance to take on a variety of classroom monitor roles; fostering responsibility and leadership.
Each Friday, children will be given weekly homework and spellings to complete at home, which will be due back the following Wednesday. Children will continue to develop their phonics skills and, if required, will have regular interventions for this. We also will be focusing on using Times Tables Rockstars as much as possible, both at home and in school. If your child needs a log in please see Mrs Woodward or message her on class Dojo.
Remember: The Year 3 school day is 8.45am- 3:15pm.
As children progress in to Year 3 (Key Stage 2), children are expected to show independence, especially when making sure they have the correct attire and resources needed for various school days.
Meet the team
In Year 3, we have one class:
- Zephaniah – Mrs Woodward
- Mrs Crawford and Mrs Evans are our year group TA’s who will assist with children’s learning.
PE
We have PE on a Tuesday and Friday afternoons and children should come to school in their PE kit on these days. PE kits must consist of a white t-shirt or a plain coloured t-shirt for their House colour, blue shorts or jogging bottoms and suitable footwear such as trainers or plimsolls. Children will need to ensure they are not wearing earrings and that long hair is tied up on the designated PE days. This is an important part of our school curriculum and we encourage all children to take part.
Reading
Children are expected to be responsible for bringing in their reading diaries and books when they need to be changed. Reading book change days are on a Thursday, and this also includes Library books. Children will need to hand in their reading records for checking, along with changing books. We will continue with the 10 minute pledge, where we promise to read 10 minutes to your child every day - with you reading with them for another 10 minutes.
Spellings and Homework
Spelling words will be sent out each Friday. Please help your child to learn to spell these words. They will be tested on these words every Wednesday. Homework will be handed out on a Friday and will be due in the following Wednesday.
