Eco Committee

Our Vision Statement

Stanton Cross Primary School is wholeheartedly dedicated to fostering a strong sense of environmental responsibility and global citizenship in our students. We firmly believe that education plays a pivotal role in shaping future generations, and as such, we are looking to integrate sustainability into our curriculum. We are committed to, not only equipping our students with essential academic skills, but also instilling a deep understanding of how they can contribute to a more sustainable world. By weaving sustainability principles into our existing curriculum, we will ensure that students grasp the interconnectedness of academic knowledge, with real-world challenges. This approach fosters a strong foundation of eco-consciousness and encourages them to think critically about how their actions impact the environment. Stanton Cross Primary School is paving the way for responsible, informed citizens who are empowered to make a positive difference in the world.

How are we going to do this in the first instance?

Our curriculum has many opportunities for children to be taught about sustainability and caring for the earth.

At Stanton Cross Primary School, we are proud to have an active and enthusiastic Eco Committee made up of pupils and staff who are passionate about protecting our school grounds, local community and planet. The Eco Committee representatives at Stanton Cross meet termly to discuss all matters eco. We talk about what active change we could be making for our school, big or small, it always makes a difference. We have handmade bird feeders and vegetable planters ready for our next projects; We are looking at growing our own fruit and vegetables in our custom designed raised beds, which can then be incorporated into our school salad bar at lunchtimes.

This year, our focus is to continue to be a school that is conscious in reducing waste, saving energy, encouraging biodiversity and promoting sustainable habits and behaviours across the school. Some of the items that we have on our agenda for this academic year 2025-2026 are: Three times a year, we will hold ‘Power Down Days’ where no members of staff are able to use electricity. This helps us to reduce our carbon footprint and reminds us about having a wellbeing break away from technology. Our Site Manager will help the Eco Council to read the electric meter and work out how much less energy we use on Power Down Days compared to normal days.

Each year group will plan a protest throughout the year based on what they are learning about. We are passionate about spreading the word about sustainability and want our voices to be heard! Keep an eye out for our future protests.

We believe that everyone has a part to play and this includes our families whereby we hope to hold some Community Project Days over this academic year; including community litter picking and walking to school days.

Please speak with your children about how they can help protect our community, send in photos of any eco-friendly activities you do and drop your ideas into our Eco Suggestions Box, located at the front office.

If you are an active member within the community, or you feel that you can support us, please reach out to Mrs Griffin, our Eco Lead, to find out how we can work together.
